The bus heading to Dhangadi from Mahendranagar collided head on with a tractor coming from Attaria Kailali. All five who died were traveling on the tractor. [break]
District police said those killed were 12-year-old Niwas Rana, 40-year-old Laxmi Rana, 36-year-old Bindu Rana, 32-year-old Sahib Rana and 34-year-old Sumeel Rana, all from Dekhatbhuli VDC.
According to the police, Laxmi and Bindu died during treatment at Bareli hospital in India while Sahib and Sumeel breathed their last while on the way to Padma hospital in Attaria. Niwas died on the spot.
DSP Birkha Bahadur Rawal said Diprendra Rana and Jhel Rana who sustained serious injuries are being treated at Bareli hospital.
“There were around 10 to 11 passengers in the bus and none of them were injured,” said the bus driver. “I was going to Attaria while the tractor was coming from the opposite direction. Our bus broke into two after colliding with the tractor,” he said.
The police have detained the tractor driver Baburan Rana for further investigation.
Meanwhile, our reporter Maheshwor Chamling Rai from Udaypur reports that a truck plunged into Koshi River.
“The truck plunged into the river but all the passengers successfully swam to safety. Excavator was used to pull out the truck,” said SP Khagendra Khadka.
