5,00 Nepalese rescued from landslide-hit Uttarakhand: Nepalese embassy

Kathmandu, June 23: The Nepalese embassy in New Delhi has said that approximately 5, 00 Nepalese pilgrims and the migrant workers stranded in landslide-hit Indian state Uttarakhand have been rescued so far. Issuing a press statement the Nepalese embassy on Sunday said that 3, 00 Nepalese pilgrims and another 2, 00 Badrikedar-based Nepalese migrant workers have been rescued. [break]



“A group of 103 Nepalese pilgrims led by Obiram Pathak from Rupandehi are on their way to Nepal on Sunday. Likewise, 5 pilgrims including Murari Adhikary are on the way to Haridwar, who were rescued from Guptakashi,” reads the statement.



A group of 4 Nepalese were rescued from Pandukeswor in Badrinath, contacted to the officials at Nepalese embassy on Sunday, are returning Nepal very soon, the embassy said.



Meanwhile, Officials of the Nepalese embassy on Sunday met with the Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna, at his office and urged for rescuing Nepalese pilgrims at Badrikedar. During the meeting, CM Bahuguna said that the state government has already deployed special teams to rescue Nepalese, Indian pilgrims and migrant workers based in Badrikedar.



 “The government has deployed aircrafts for relief and rescue operations,” Bahuguna said during the meeting.
