Inaugurating the meet, President Yadav said the country should make health services accessible to all by tackling the challenges it has been facing after the peaceful political transition following the decade-long insurgency.
He said the country is moving towards writing a new pro-people constitution for sustainable peace and all sectors should be aware of the citizens´ rights to basic health services. He said the discussion and sharing of experiences at the conference will be an important achievement for the people of the region.
Conference organizing committee chairman and senior doctor Prof Anil Kumar Jha said skin disease patients comprised 20 percent of all patients in Nepal. He said group efforts are needed to eliminate leprosy from Nepal as the disease is still a challenge here even though it has been eliminated from most parts of the world.
Society Chairman Prof Dr Hari Narayan Gupta said the conference will discuss new treatment methods and technologies in curing skin diseases and leprosy.
On the occasion, Dr Yadav felicitated specialist doctors and social workers who have come to attend the conference. Among the felicitated are Switzerland´s Dr Gunter Burg, Nepal´s Dr Anil Kumar Jha, Britain´s Dr Terence Ryan and India´s Dr Gurmohan Singh.
Besides experts from South Asia, experts from different countries including Australia, UK, US and Switzerland are also participating in the conference.
