3 protestors injured in Rautahat clash

RAUTAHAT/UDAYAPUR, Sept 24: At least three protestors were seriously injured in a clash with policemen after they attempted to enter into the prohibitory areas of Garuda in Rautahat district on Wednesday.

The injured have been identified as Shesh Manjur, Ram Bilas Chaudhary and Surendra Baitha. The injured are being treated at a local hospital of Garuda, informed a local agitating leader, Rajkumar Das.


The clashes between police and protestors have continued in Garuda since the last four days.

Police Inspector Santulal Prasad Jaiswal of Area Police Office, Garuda informed that they were forced to fire five rounds in the air and baton charge the protestors to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, leaders of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) also set ablaze copies of the new constitution in Gaur municipality.

Udayapur strike intensifies

Local cadres of the UDMF and other disgruntled groups on Wednesday decided to intensify their protest in Udayapur district, which had earlier remained relatively calm.

Protests have intensified after Kishor Sanjiv Chaudhary, a local protestor of Triyuga municipality-2, Gaighat was attacked by an unknown group of people. He is currently undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Health Institute in Dharan.

Following the decision, market area, shops, industry, transportation services have been closed in the district. The disgruntled groups have resumed their general strike claiming that one of their party cadres was attacked by the UML and Congress party cadres.

Pradip Kumar Chaudhary, coordinator of the district protest steering committee alleged that their peaceful protests were being continuously disrupted by the opposition.

"Our party cadre has been injured. We have been forced to resume the strike again," he added.

Earlier, with a view to bring the lives to normalcy, local protestors had eased their protest 23 days ago.

RPP Dhanusha district committee quits party

Members of Rastriya Prajatantra Party's (RPP) Dhanusha District Committee Wednesday quit the party en masse, according to Ritesh Singh, the party's district chair. "We have joined the ongoing protests in Madhes after quitting the party," Singh told reporters in Janakpur.
