2nd win for Nepali eves in World C'ship

KATHAMNDU, March 3: Nepal on Thursday recorded second win in women's team event at the World Table Tennis Championship underway in Malaysia. Nepal placed in 86th position in the world ranking overcame superior-ranked Pakistan 3-1. Pakistan holds the 76th position in the world ranking.

Nabita Shrestha of Nepal overcame Kashif Rahil of Pakistan 13-11, 11-3, 11-7. Elina Maharjan, however, faced 9-11, 8-11 and 10-11 defeat at the hands of Bilal Sabnam. Another Nepali player Rabina Maharjan beat Khurshid Maliha 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 3-11, 12-10 to register a hard fought victory for a 2-1 lead. In another match, Nabita overcame a Pakistani opponent 11-5, 11-5, 4-11, 9-11, 11-3 to seal Nepal's victory.The match Nepal played against Pakistan was for a place between 61st to 72nd position in the world ranking. The win over Pakisan lifted Nepal to the 68th position, according to Nepal Table Tennis Association President Chaturananda Raj Baidhya.

Nepal is also scheduled to play against 54th-ranked Macau on Thursday as well. Earlier, Team Nepal had defeated 59th ranked Estonia 3-1 in its first match.
