KATHMANDU: Nepal won the ACC U-19 Women´s Championship hammering Malaysia by seven wickets at the Prem Oval in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Tuesday. [break]

Nepal, which had inflicted a seven-wicket defeat on Malaysia in their first league match, repeated the dose on the Malaysians riding on some excellent bowling performance.

Nepal bowled Malaysia out for 45 in 16.2 overs after electing to field first. New ball bowler Rekha Rawal continued her excellent form to pick up two wickets at the top taking her tally to 12 in the tournament while player-of-the-match Sonu Khadka returned figures of 3/9.

Sita Magar also claimed a couple of victims while Keshari Chaudhary and Trishna Singh chipped in with one each.

None of the Malaysian batswomen could reach double figure. But for the generosity of the Nepali bowlers, who gifted 30 extras, the Malaysian total would have been paltrier.

Chasing the moderate total for the title, Nepal reached home in 11.5 overs losing just three wickets with in-form opener Maya Rawat making quick 15 off 18 balls including a boundary.

Opener Roshani Bohara failed to open her account but partnered Rawat to add 20 runs for the first wicket. Rawat and No 5 batswoman Binu Magar (0 off 1) also fell at the same score opening up the door for an improbable Malaysian victory. But Trishna Singh and Sita Magar held their nerves to take Nepal home without further loss.

Singh remained unbeaten on nine off 26 balls with two boundaries while Magar was not out on eight off 15. New ball bowler Nur Aishah took two wickets while her opening partner Winifred Duraisingham claimed the other Nepali wicket.

“We always knew we had the team to win. We´ve been playing for a long time and had enough confidence in matches," said Nepal´s captain Nary Thapa, who was also captain when Nepal was finalist in the inaugural ACC Women´s Tournament for seniors in 2007.
