The Minister who reached the ministry at 9:45 am took charge of the attendance register and waited till 10:20 am for the employees to turn up at work. Even after 20 minutes “grace time” (office hour starts from 10 am), some 19 out of 73 employees did not reach the ministry.
Among the late-comers were a joint-secretary (technical), 2 under-secretaries (technical), 1 under-secretary (administration), 5 section officers and 10 non-gazette officers. Minister Bohara has issued “clarification letter” to all the late-comers seeking reasons for coming late to work.
“We must push for an atmosphere of discipline at government offices,” Bohara said, adding, “The employees will face departmental action if the clarification offered by them is unsatisfactory.”
The ministry can recommend departmental action against the employees to the Ministry of General Administration. The recommendation is then forwarded to the Public Service Commission (PSC), which has the final authority to take action against the errant employees.
