According to office chief of the fourth Divisional Headquarters in Hattikhor, Tara Pun, about 1000 people have applied for enrolment in the PLA. There are 600 positions in the division that fell vacant during verification of the combatants by the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
The Third Division in Jutpani of Chitwan, has received about applications for the 700 vacant positions.
The applicants reached the two headquarters only since Thursday though the notice inviting applications was displayed at the main entrance of the two cantonments since Tuesday.
Both the divisions have also pasted sample of application forms with spaces for name, caste, age, position, gender and citizenship number.
A nearby notice signed by PLA Commander Nanda Kishor Pun says that the support of the five ruling parties to Nepal Army’s recruitment, despite their conclusion that the process was against Comprehensive Peace Agreement, has paved the way for PLA to start recruitment in its rank. Pun’s notice says the PLA needs to increase its number (from 19,602) to 31,315, the number initially registered by the UNMIN.
