TAPLEJUNG, Dec 4: All 14 teachers of a school in Dhungesanghu VDC-7, Taplejung district have become displaced due to a threat by Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) cadres.

The teachers became displaced after a group of YCL cadres threatened to kill one of the teachers, Jhana Nath Thebe, for no apparent reason, after picketing the school 16 days ago. All the teachers at the school have since shut down the school indefinitely and taken refuge at district headquarters.

Thebe said he managed to save his life by fleeing. According to him, masked Maoist cadres came to the school around 1 p.m. on November 18 and began searching for him. Two of the Maoists came with khukuri knives and three others had home-made guns.

The day after the Maoists began searching for Thebe all the other teachers decided to shut the school and flee to district headquarters for fear of the YCL.
