Advocates—Tanka Raj Aryal and Santosh Babu Sigdel—along with journalist Tara Nath Dahal filed a petition citing that the police’s move has violated fundamental rights of the citizens as per Article 28 of the Interim Constitution and other international laws. [break]
Citing that the country lacks clear laws on monitoring phone calls and SMS details, the petitioners sought the Apex Court’s directive on formation of a separate law on data protection of citizens.
The petitioners also sought a stay order from the court till the verdict over the issue is served.
