What was burned  can be rebuilt, but a mother’s empty lap can never be filled: Rabi Lamichhane

Blaming government repression for escalating the situation, he said, “If no shots had been fired on September 8, nothing would have been burned. If bullets had not been aimed at the chests and heads of young children in school uniforms, nothing would have caught fire.”

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that incidents of arson during the events of September 9 would not have occurred had there not been excessive use of force by the state.

Addressing an election rally in Gorkha on Thursday, Lamichhane expressed anger, alleging that shots were fired at schoolchildren wearing school uniforms.

Blaming government repression for escalating the situation, he said, “If no shots had been fired on September 8, nothing would have been burned. If bullets had not been aimed at the chests and heads of young children in school uniforms, nothing would have caught fire.”

Lamichhane stated that while damaged physical structures can be rebuilt, the loss suffered by mothers who lost their children to state firing can never be undone.

“What was burned can be rebuilt,” he said. “But a mother’s empty lap can never be filled again.”

He also said that neither he nor his candidate Sudan is above questioning and expressed readiness to face any inquiries wherever necessary.

“Many have won from Gorkha, but Gorkha itself has not won,” Lamichhane said. “Voting for Sudan is not just about electing an individual; it is about securing a win for the people and for Gorkha. This time, Gorkha’s son who holds the nation close to his heart must be sent to Parliament.”

He urged people not to follow rumors and said he guarantees that Sudan Gurung is a true Gorkhali who loves the country.
