DANG, Feb 29: Bandas in Nepal are called for the most trifling of issues. If any political party, group or individual has a grievance or a demand to make, the first thing they do is hit the streets and stop vehicular movement.

But locals in a remote village in Pyuthan have outmaneuvered all by obstructing road for the best part of two days to protest the killing of a rooster in a road accident.[break]

Locals of Nas in Khaal Village Development Committee (VDC) 8 obstructed the road to Swargadwari of Pyuthan since Monday morning after a jeep killed the rooster of one Mamta Pun on Sunday.

The villagers have said the jeep owner should pay Rs 2,000 for the dead rooster. They said the jeep was on its way to Swargadwari and they were waiting for its return.

They obstructed the road throughout the day and stopped passenger buses and tractors carrying goods.

“I was not at home when the accident occurred on Sunday. I knew about the accident only when neighbors told me after I returned home in the evening,” the owner of the rooster Pun said nonchalantly.

The locals reluctantly allowed vehicular movement late Tuesday afternoon.
