CHITWAN, March 17: The Jhyalbas village of Deurali-6 of Nawalparasi has been declared a bird-flu affected area.

A meeting chaired by Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi made the declaration on Wednesday.

“We have taken action,” Panthi said. “A spread to neighboring villages is unlikely,” he added.

After birds started dying in the village two weeks ago, a sample was sent to a lab in Britain. The lab confirmed bird-flu.

The administration has prohibited people from taking birds out from the village.
