USAID provides US$ 18m for health program

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and the US Agency for the International Development (USAID) on Monday launched ´Health for Life´ program in 14 districts, covering 12 mid-western and two western districts.



The five year project, worth US$ 18 million provided by USAID, aims to improve overall health system and support family planning programs. [break]



Amid a function held in the capital, the MoHP and the USAID signed a partnership agreement for implementing the program. Health Secretary Dr Praveen Mishra said the program has been designed to reach the people of the remote regions.



The USAID said that the program will work in close coordination with the MoHP and other health sector development partners at the central, district as well as community levels.



The USAID Deputy Mission Director, Sheila Lutjens, said that the ´Health for Life´ program will be helpful in reducing under-five mortality rate, infant mortality rate, neonatal mortality rate and maternal mortality rate. The program also aims to improve total fertility rate and health information system performance index.
