According to the Maoist leaders, Khanal and Finance Minister Bharatmohan Adhikari prepared a budget that is not commensurate with the leftist ideology, and is instead directed against the interest of their party.[break]
The Maoist top brass is scheduled to meet Khanal and Adhikari to express their reservations and ask the latter to revise the budget due for presentation in parliament on July 14.
“Yes, we are holding talks with the prime minister and finance minister. The budget should be prepared jointly,” said Maoist Vice-chairman Narayankji Shrestha.
The Maoists have taken exception to the program Garib Sanga Bishweshor (poor with former prime minister and NC leader BP Koirala), which they have claimed is for the “welfare of anti-Maoist elements.”
Similarly, the new budget, according to Maoist leaders, is silent on providing relief packages to the kin of the Maoists disappeared by the security forces and injured during the insurgency.
Vice-chairman Shrestha stated that the differences would be sorted out once the party holds a meeting with the prime minister and finance minister. “In fact, we want to make sure that both the parties involve in it,” Shrestha said.
Shrestha also informed that the party is doing serious homework to sort out the intra-party differences and would soon hold a meeting of the party Central Committee (CC), which was postponed last Friday due to factional disputes.
