Speaking at a press meet in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Chairman of DMO and Minister for Irrigation Raghubir Mahaseth said the CA is the only legitimate body to promulgate the new constitution and that they would not accept a statute drafted by any other body. [break]
Claiming that a conspiracy is being hatched to dissolve the CA, he said, “There would be a constitutional void if CA is dissolved. Dissolution of CA would invite a host of other political problems,” said Mahaseth. “In order to avoid such a situation, the CA tenure must be extended,” added he.
Mahaseth accused the agitating Madhes-based parties -- Madheshi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), Tarai Madhes Democratic Party and Sadabhawana Party-- of venting their frustration rather than advocating for a genuine cause.
“What did they do for the people of Madhes when they were in power?” he questioned.
Mahaseth also claimed that the government would make all possible efforts to pass the bill on extending CA tenure on the basis of consensus. “If not it would be passed by two-thirds majority,” said he.
