KATHMANDU, Oct 14: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) is underway to take decision on whom to send as Deputy Prime Minister to the newly formed government and speaker to the Legislature-Parliament.

The meeting, which is taking place at the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's residence in Lazimpat, will select candidates for the post of DPM of the newly formed government and speaker of the Lagislature-Parliament from the party, said Dahal's personal secretary and central committee member Chudamani Khadka.
UCPN (Maoist) has already sent Haribol Gajurel as the Minister for Agriculture to the government while the other leaders to participate in the government are yet to finalize.According to a source, the meeting is mulling to send Krishna Bahadur Mahara as Deputy Prime Minister to the government.
Even though the party is discussing to send chief whip Girirajmani Pokharel as speaker of the Lagislature-Parliament, he is not willing to take up this post, a source privy to the meeting added.
Chairman Dahal has prepared to send Pokharel as speaker and Mahara as DPM. On the other hand, Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has been claiming the leadership in the government representing his party.
As per the agreement reached earlier, UCPN (Maoist) will head eight ministries including home ministry and DPM.
Speaker Subas Nembang is preparing to resign from his post today itself. The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today will take the election process of speaker and deputy speaker forward and Nembang is thus preparing to resign from the post, deputy spokesperson for the parliament secretariat Sudarshan Kuinkel told Republica.
The secretariat has planned to file nomination of speaker on Thursday and hold election on Friday.
