SINDHUPALCHWOK: Local officials and traders have decided to take joint intiaitive for bringing agricultural goods imported from China directly to Larcha for customs clearance and quarantine tests once the dry port in Larcha starts operation.

Dilli Raj Pokharel, chief district officer of Sindhupalchwok, said local officials, traders engaged in Nepal-China trade and officials of Sindhupalchwok Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) have decided to approach Chinese officials to make necessary arrangement for the purpose.

Traders argue that such an arrangement would avoid the tedious and time consuming process of loading and unloading of goods in Khasa. [break]

The dry port in Larcha is being built under Chinese assistance to facilitate bilateral trade. "Agro-products get destroyed while loading and unloading at Khasa," Pokharel said, adding, "It takes more than 15 days to bring goods up to Khasa and another one week to transport those goods from Khasa to Kathmandu."
