Three parties expedite merger talks

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: Three political parties headed by leader with Panchayat background have expedited the process to merge into single political party. Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rastriya Janashakti Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal led by Kamal Thapa have expedited talks to form a strong ´nationalist´ party. [break]



According to RPP´s spokesperson Khem Raj Pandit, the merger between the RPP-led by Pashupati SJB Rana and the RJP-led by Surya Bahadur Thapa will take place within a week´s time. “There will be a meeting between RJP and RPP anytime soon to finalize the merger between the two parties,” he said.



Pandit said that the RJP on Saturday held an internal meeting to sit for negotiation with the RPP. The two parties plan to announce the merger amidst a press conference sometime later this week.







According to the preliminary plan, RPP Chairman Pashupati SJB Rana will head the new party and the RJP Chairman Thapa will head a mechanism of the party.



Pandit said there has been agreement to merge the party from grassroots level. He also disclosed that they are also holding talks with the RPPN. “The merger with the RPPN is likely to take place after merger between RJP and RPP,” he added. The RPPN continues to advocate for constitutional monarchy in the country.



While RPP has a total of eight seats, RPPN and RJP have a total four and three seats, respectively, in the 601-member Constituent Assembly.
