Three die in elephant attack in Udayapur

UDAYAPUR, Nov 27: Three people, including a child and an elderly woman, died in two separate elephant attacks in Udayapur district on Thursday. Among those dead are a woman of Bagaha village of Triyuga-8 and a father and his son of Kaubai village of Trinapa-12, according to District Police Office, Udayapur.



Chaturmaya Rai, 63, of Bagaha was caught by the elephant´s trunk while she was trying to flee. The beast then slammed her on the ground, killing her, according to Surya Rai, a local.



Similarly, Gyanendra Magar, 30, and his seven-year-old Munal of Kaubai wre killed after being attacked by an elephant Thursday night, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pashupatinath Dotel. Munal, who was injured after being slammed on the ground, died while being taken for treatment to Dharan Friday morning.



The father and son were sleeping in a cot outside their house when they were attacked by the elephant.



Magar´s wife who was sleeping inside the house, came to know about the incident only an hour later. She then called villagers for help.



There have been four deaths in the district owing to elephant attacks this week alone. On Monday, one person was killed by an elephant in Basaha village.
