The fire demolished the houses of Pahalman and Dinesh. The children were playing in a cattle shed, where the fire broke out, and could not escape.

Govinda Raut, a local, said they could not be saved as there was no one to rescue them. By the time villagers came to know about the fire outbreak, the three were already dead.

The fire charred the two houses, all furniture, belongings and food items, apart from killing the cattle.

Hom Bahadur Dahal, former chairman of the VDC, said the fire started when children lighted matchsticks while their parents were working in the fields.

The village is located 15 miles away from the district headquarters.

A police team has been dispatched to the village from District Police Office. Inspector Khagendra Khadka said full details of the damage will be known only after the police reach the village.
