According to our Itahari correspondent Amar Khadka, the TASC´s indefinite strike affected transport movement along the highway in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, and Siraha, among other districts. [break]
However, motorcycles, ambulances and vehicles of diplomatic community were allowed to ply. In places dominated by Tharu population, even markets and educational institutions remained shut.
The strike had only mild effect in Biratnagar though. The TASC launched the indefinite strike to protest a recent agreement Prime Minister Jhalanath Khala and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal struck with Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Chairman Upendra Yadav to ensure participation of the madhes-based party in the government. The TASC says it will continue the strike until the agreement that is against territorial integrity and inclusion is scrapped.
Meanwhile, FLSC Sangjuhang Palungwa group´s strike too affected normal life in nine other districts in eastern Nepal. Transport movement came to a halt in Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, and Sankhusabha, among other districts. Educational institutions and businesses also remained shut in these districts.
The group is demanding timely constitution and formation of a separate Limbuwan State, among others. Meanwhile, our Dhangadhi correspondent Dil Bahadur Chantyal reported that the Tharuhat strike affected normal life in Kailali on Friday.
