Thapa Magar submitted a card of two-under 65 for a total of one-under 134 to lead the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13. He is two strokes ahead of amateur player Dinesh Prajapati, who played a round of even-par 67 on Wednesday.[break]
Thapa Magar took the turn at even-par 33 and played two-under 32 on the back nine. His front nine included a birdie on the fourth hole and a bogey on the seventh. On the back nine, he carded birdies on the 11th and 13th holes.
Overnight leader amateur Tashi Tshiring played a disastrous round on Wednesday as he shot five-over 72. He shared the third position with RNGC pros Rabi Khadka, Sanjay Lama and Shiva Ram Shrestha at three-over 137. Khadka carded even-par 67 while Lama shot two-over 69. Nepal No 1 pro Shrestha submitted a card of one-over 68.
Army Club´s Dhana Thapa, who carded one-under 66, is seventh at 138, one ahead of Surya Prasad Sharma (70). Amateur Bikash Bogati and pro Toran Bikram Shahi shared the ninth position at six-over 140. Yalamber Singh Adhikari (69) and Ram Thapa (70) shared the 11th position along with amateur Michael Rai, who surprised everyone with his round of one-under 66 for a total of 141.
Other pros who qualified for the money-making final round included Deepak Acharya, Umesh Nagarkoti, Tham Bahadur Rai, Prasanna Upreti, Jaya Ram Shrestha, Sachin Bhattarai, CB Bhandari, Pashupati Sharma, Sunil Mizar, Ramesh Adhikari, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Suman Rai, Bishnu KC and Mani Rai.
The cut fell at 14-over 148 with 24 pros and seven amateurs making it to the final round. This is the first time that all the six amateur players of the 2014 Asian Games camp under Surya Nepal NGA Youth Golf Development Program have made the cut.
In the amateur section, Bishnu Sharma, Ashish Pariyar and Sunil KC also made the cut.
The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 100,000 while the runner-up will bag Rs 72,000. The tournament, which is sponsored by International Society for Medical Education (ISME) Pvt Ltd, is the largest in the domestic circuit in terms of cash prize.
