Speaking at an interaction organized here, Thapa said the interim constitution should be amended to shorten the process for bringing in the new constitution within the slated time. [break]
He also stated that the country has moved ahead towards uncertainty.
Thapa further stressed on the need to have a broader consensus among democratic forces in the country to protect democratic norms, values and culture in the present situation, adding that the Nepali Congress should take lead on the consensus building process.
Responding to a query, he urged all to be confident that his party will not collaborate with former King Gyanendra Shah as the party has already accepted the country as a republic with federalism.
On the occasion, Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana said the political parties have no alternative to promulgating the new constitution within May 27 at least considering the decision of the Supreme Court and the pressure from the people and the international community.
He also underscored on the need to manage combatants and their arms within April 12 to complete the peace process and constitution writing task.
Rana further laid an emphasis on the formation of a national consensus government under NC leadership, which he said would promulgate the new constitution once the peace process reaches its logical conclusion.
Similarly, Co-chairman of the RJP Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani clarified that they have been taking the stance that those involved in heinous crime and human rights violation should not be pardoned while forming the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
