Thapa, Pradhan in semis

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Defending champion Hira Bahadur Thapa and Prajjwal Prakash Pradhan on Thursday booked semifinal spots in the men’s singles of the Third NSRA Open Squash Championship organized by Nepal Squash and Rackets Association (NSRA).



Thapa defeated Binod Ratna Shakya in three straight sets during the quarterfinal played at the Satdobato Squash Academy, Lalitpur, while Pradhan beat Suraj Shrestha 3-2. [break]



Suresh Gurung and Bal Kumar completed the semifinals line-up as they thrashed Gyanu Chaudhary and Amrit Thapa respectively. Thapa will take on Kumar for a place in the final, while Pradhan will face Gurung.



Meanwhile, Nilima Malla and Krishna Thapa won their respective matches in the women’s round robin league on Thursday. Malla stunned Shrishti Maskey for her second win in three matches.



Likewise, Thapa continued her winning streak registering her third victory in the event participated by five women. Thapa beat Sneha Banshal on Thursday. In the veterans’ singles of above 40 age group, Rajendra Bhakta Shrestha and Lokendra Mansingh Bhandari reached the last four.
