Thapa defeated Rabi Khadka 5/4 (five up with four holes remaining) while Nepal No 1 pro Shrestha registered a 3/2 victory over Surya Prasad Sharma in the semifinals. [break]
The losing semifinalists will contest in 18-hole third place decider on Wednesday, while Thapa and Shrestha will play over 36 holes in the final on Wednesday.
Thapa had defeated Shrestha in the semifinal of the last edition and claimed maiden career title.
Thapa had an easy outing against Khadka. Thapa lost the first hole but after leveling the scores on the second hole, he went five-up after the completion of nine holes. On the back nine, Thapa lost 11th and 13th holes before completing the victory on the 14th hole.
He won the 12th hole during the course of victory. Thapa hit four birdies, while Khadka managed only two. Thapa won eight holes, while Khadka won three and other three holes were halved.
In the other semifinal, Shrestha started the day with a victory on the first hole before Sharma leveled the scores on the third hole.
After sharing the next three holes, Shrestha went 4-up when he won four straight holes from Hole No 7. Sharma then won the next three holes to cut the deficit to one down.
Shrestha then won the 14th with a birdie and the duo shared the next hole before Shrestha wrapped up the victory on the 16th hole with a birdie. Shrestha won a total of seven holes while Sharma won four. Five holes were halved. Shrestha carded seven birdies in the process, whereas Sharma hit two.
Sixteen top pros -- based on the 2010/11 -- Order of Merit - took part in the ninth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011/12. Winner of the event will receive Rs 50,000 while runner-up will get Rs 30,000.
