LUKLA, May 31: Inspired by the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, Thai Ambassador to Nepal Maris Sangiapong has announced to conduct another marathon in Nepal by the end of 2012.

The Thai ambassador said the marathon will be named Buddhist Circuit Marathon. The marathon will be held in Lumbini and its route will cover important Buddhist religious sites.[break]

“As we do not have any religious marathon, I’m sure this will be a very unique marathon and the first of its kind in the world,” Sangiapong said during the Everest Marathon on Sunday. Sangiapong was the chief guest of the function held at Namche Bazar.

“Since Nepal is the birth place of Lord Buddha, this marathon will help in spreading Buddha’s message of peace. His philosophy is very important,” the ambassador added.

“Although the idea is Buddhist marathon, everybody can participate in it because everyone wants peace,” said Bikram Pandey, chairman of Himalaya Expeditions that organized the Everest Marathon to commemorate the ascent on the world’s highest peak by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.
