KATHMANDU, July 24: Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority (KVTDA) Commissioner Keshab Sthapit said on Tuesday the squatters, earlier evicted from their temporary settlement on the Bagmati river bank in Thapathali, will be relocated elsewhere, not in Sundharighat, Lalitpur.

Sthapit said this while talking to the squatters at the UN Park near Sankhamul, where they have currently been taking shelter. According to him, the KVTDA has taken a decision to this effect during its meeting today. [break]

Earlier, the government had decided to resettle the squatters in Sundarighat near Sanepa. Sthapit’s statement comes when Sundarighat locals have been hitting the street, calling a three-day Lalitpur banda on Sunday in its latest protest move ever since the government made the announcement.
