SPORTS BRIEFS: Police, APF maintain winning run

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Both departmental teams -- Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force (APF) gave continuity to their cent percent winning streak on Wednesday during the 8th Dhorpatan Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament being held at New Bus Park in Gongabu. Police crushed Kavre District Volleyball Association 25-5, 25-8, 25-8.



With its seventh win in a row Police collected 21 points and maintained its lead at the top of table. APF defeated Chandeshwari Youth Club of Ramechhap 25-12, 25-3, 25-7. [break]



APF lies in the second place with 20 points after winning all seven matches played. Meanwhile, Fishtail Academy of Pokhara achieved double victories. Fishtail edged past Dhulabari Higher Secondary School of Jhapa 25-8, 25-7, 25-6 and New Diamond Sports Club 18-25, 28-26, 25-16, 25-23. In other match, Angel´s Heart defeated Kavre District Volleyball Association 25-13, 25-8, 25-8.



LRI, Trinity into QF



KATHMANDU
: LRI, Trinity, Bagmati and host Prime made it to the quarterfinal in the boy´s section on Wednesday in the 10th Prime Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. LRI edged past Times 60-40 with 23 points from Krishna Budha and Trinity outplayed Gurukul 59-23. Sandesh Tamang top scored with 13 points for Trinity. Nissan Chhantyal scored 17 points as Bagmati defeated Oriental 55-49. Host Prime ousted Angel´s Heart 49-34 with 16 points from Satish Singh. In girl´s round robin league Prime defeated NASA 42-29 with 16 points from Sneha Shrestha.



Ambassador FC beats Pokhara



POKHARA
: Ambassador FC of America defeated Pokhara XI 1-0 during a friendly match played on Wednesday at the Pokhara Stadim in Kaski. Tenner Hunjak scored the lone goal in the 39th minute for the visiting side. The event was organized for the promotion of football in Pokhara. The visiting team is also scheduled to play a friendly match against top tire domestic football team Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) on Saturday.



Thapa takes lead in Chess tourney



KATHMANDU
: Professional and Inter School Chess Competition, jointly organized by Russian Center of Science and Culture, Ambition Academy and Karapov Chess Club to mark the Constitution Day of Russia, kicked off in the capital on Wednesday. Krishna Thapa of Makawanpur took the lead on the first day of the two-day event. Keshav Thapa remained in the second position on the first day. Altogether 11players, including a Russian, are participating in the professional section while 33 juniors are participating in the tournament. Susan Gautam of Greenland took the lead in the junior section on Wednesday. Professional competition would be held in round robin league format while juniors would compete in nine rounds of Swiss League System.
