RR College defeated defending champions Pentagon College, Kathmandu by 33 runs in the first semifinal of the tournament here on Friday while NASA thrashed CCRC, Kathmandu by seven wickets. [break]
RR put pup 102 runs in 17 overs losing seven wickets as the innings was cut off by three overs. In reply, Pentagon were all out for 69 runs in 16.3 overs. Likewise, CCRC put up 118/7 in 20 overs in the second semifinal but NASA met the target with seven wickets in hand.
Double delight for Greenland
KATHMANDU: Both teams ´A´ and ´B´ of the hosts Greenland registered victories in the Fifth Kwiks Greenland Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Friday. Greenland ´A´ defeated Awareness International 59-40 while Greenland ´B´ saw off Fluorescent 36-21 on the home court in Dhapasi. Gyan Niketan, Angel´s Heart and HHCA also won their respective matches. In the junior boys´ category, HIA, Angel´s Heart, Valley Public and HHCA registered victories.
Whitehouse in final
KATHMANDU: Whitehouse advanced into the final of the Kirtipur Mahotsav Cup Open Men´s and Women´s Basketball Tournament in the boys´ category on Friday. Whitehouse saw off South Siders 71-52 in the semifinal match held on Kirtipur Basketball Court. Rajiv Joshi contributed 16 points for the winning team while Rishi Robertson of South Siders scored 28 points. The final of the girls´ category will be held between Whitehouse and Prime College. Prime defeated Whitehouse 37-20 in the girls´ round robin match but both teams advanced into the final as winners and runners-up respectively.
Innovative win inaugural match
KATHMANDU: The junior boys´ team of hosts Innovative School commenced their game on a winning note in the First Innovative Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Friday. The hosts outplayed Gyan Niketan to register a 44-13 win on the home court, Shankhamul, in the inaugural match. In the senior boys´ category, Nerik and Gyanodaya won their respective matches. Nerik saw off Gyan Niketan 51-35 while Gyanodaya had a narrow 54-50 win over the hosts. Likewise, the senior girls´ team of Gyanodaya hammered the hosts 27-2.
APF beaten in first match
KATHMANDU: Nepal APF Club lost the first match by eight wickets in the CK Nayadu T20 Cricket Tournament in Pune, India. APF won the toss and elected to bat first against Reliance Group of Raigad. With Sarad Vesawkar scoring 45 off 37 balls and Sanjay Shrestha and Dipendra Chaudhary making 15 each, APF finished at 128/9 in 20 overs. For Reliance, Tushar Mhatre took three wickets. In reply, VS Shinde scored 53 not out for an easy victory in 18.1 overs. Sushant Khaire (31) and Shashi Kadam (24 not out) also contributed to the victory. APF will now meet Central Railway team on Saturday.
RCT sign two Cameroon footballers
KATHMANDU: Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT), an A-division football club, signed two foreign players for the upcoming football season. RCT issuing a press release informed that Alexis Likeng and Ntolo Ngoumou Roselyn Yues, both from Cameroon, have inked the contract papers on Friday. RCT have registered both the players at the All Nepal Football Association on Friday.
