Bhairahawa face Janakpur in opener
Region No 4 Bhairahawa will play against Region No 7 Janakpur in the opener of the Wai Wai Women´s National Cricket Tournament that kicks off on Tuesday at the Pulchowk ground. Likewise, in another match of the day, Region No 2 Birgunj will meet Region No 3 Kathmandu.
The participating teams are divided into two groups. Kathmandu, Bhairahawa, Birgunj and Janakpur are in group A, while group B consists of Region No 5 Nepalgunj, Region No 1 Biratnagar, Region No 6 Baitadi and Region No 8 Pokhara. Two matches will be held every day in T20 format at the Pulchowk ground.
The winners and runners-up of each group will qualify for the semifinals. The final will be held on January 12.
NJA bids farewell to Maeda
Nepal Judo Association (NJA) bade farewell to JICA senior volunteer and judo coach Masahiro Maeda. NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya handed over a memento to Maeda amid a function organized in the capital on Sunday. Maeda, 70, is returning to Japan next week after serving for two years in Nepal.
Uraw wins gold
BIRATNAGAR: Ajay Uraw of Pokhariya Secondary School, Biratnagar won gold in junior boys´ 100 m sprint on the first day of the First Regional Lions Club Inter-school Sports Competition on Sunday.
Sunita Chaudhary of SOS, Itahari won the junior girls´ 100 m sprint in the event organized by 11 Lions Clubs of Biratnagar, while her schoolmate Sanam Chaudhary won the boys´ long jump. Pratima Tuladhar of Saraswati School, Biratnagar clinched gold in the girls´ long jump while Sarita Karki of SOS, Itahari won the girls´ shot put.
Delhi Public School and Siddhartha Shishu Sadan, Biratnagar reached the final of the boys´ table tennis team event. Meanwhile, Delhi Public School defeated Gograha School 2-1 in the semifinal of boys´ football.
