SPORTS BRIEFS: APF maintains winning run

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: Armed Police Forced maintained its cent percent winning streak upto 10th match on Saturday in the 8th Dhorpatan Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament being held at Gongabu, Kathmandu.



APF thumped Chandeshwari Youth Club of Ramechhap 25-12, 25-14, 25-7 to achieve 10th victory. APF remained unchanged on the top spot with 29 points. [break]



Defending champion Nepal Police Club edged past Fishtail Higher Secondary School of Pokhara 25-20, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14. Police that has so far achieved nine wins from 10 matches played is on the second spot with 27 points. Meanwhile, Fishtail beat Angel´s Hearts 25-17, 25-12, 25-16. New Diamond Sports Club overcame Kavre District Volleyball Association 25-12, 25-19, 25-14.



Host St Xavier´s defends title



KATHMANDU
: Host St Xavier´s, Godavari, defended the title of the 17th Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament on Saturday. In the title clash held at home ground, Godavari, St Xavier´s edged past Little Angel´s (LA) 1-0. Mausam Shrestha scored the decisive goal for home team through penalty. St Xavier´s, Jawalakhel took home the third place honors defeating Nepal APF School in sudden death. Birendra Budha of APF was declared the best player who also took home the highest scorer award for scoring highest 10 goals. Rajesh Jimi of St Xavier´s, Jawalakhel won the most promising player award. Manjil Manandhar of LA and Ashim Khadka of St Xavier´s, Gdavari were declared the best goalkeeper and defender respectively. APF won the fair play award.



Kotdevi clinches title



KATHMANDU
: Kotdevi Public School clinched the title of the 7th FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament on Saturday. Kotdevi defeated defending champion Cosmic International Academy 2-1 in the final with one goal each from Roshan Shrestha and Manoj Shrestha. Pravat Gurung scored for Cosmic. The winner and the runner-up teams bagged purse of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. New Star Pole School finished third. Ashish Shrestha of Cosmic and Sanjiv Lama of Shramsil were declared the best player and emerging player respectively. Uttam Giri of Cosmic took home the highest scorer award with six goals in his kitty.



Trinity, Prime win titles



KATHMANDU
: Trinity and host Prime lifted the boy´s and girl´s titles of the 10th Prime Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Saturday. In the boy´s final, Prime saw off Xavier International 46-26 with 17 point from Sandesh Tamang. In the girl´s final, Prime overcame NASA 45-27. Sneha Shrestha contributed 13 points. Tamang of Trinity in the boy´s section and Shrestha of Prime in the girl´s section were declared the most valuable players. Altogether 21 teams in boy´s and four teams in girl´s section had competed in the event.



Volleyball kits distributed



KATHMANDU
: Sindhupalchowk District Volleyball Association (SDVA) on Saturday distributed volleyball kits to different clubs and schools of the district. Volleyball kits -- volleyballs, nets and jerseys -- worth Rs 107,000 were distributed in the district. Diyalo Youth Club, Setidevi High School Student´s Group, Golmadei Club, Araniko, Bhumeshwari High School, Five Star Youth Club, Mahendra Kranti High School, Kakling Harisiddhi High School, Bagh Bhairav High School, Kodhunga Devi, Jalpa Devi High School, Sanga Chowk Club and Yankal Higher Secondary School, among other schools, received the kits. Meanwhile, SDVA also decided to organize Bagmati Zonal Volleyball Tournament.
