Six more die of diarrhea

NEPALGUNJ, Aug 5: Five more persons lost their lives to diarrhea in Jajarkot while another died of the disease in Dailekh on Wednesday.



Bhim Bahadur BK of Nayakbada-8, Kalawati Damai of Karkigaun-9, Saraswati BK of Pajaru-6, Manamati Tiruwa of Thalaraikar and Suvi Kami of Laha-1 died of the disease in Jajarkot. Similarly, Bivek Shahi of Lyatibindrasaini-7 died in Dailekh. All five victims in Jajarkot were dalits.



A significant number of the victims, who have lost their lives to diarrhea, belong to the dalit community. Though the composition of dalits in the 15 districts of Mid-Western Region is below 15 percent, a whopping 133 of the 295 confirmed victims in the nine districts affected by the diarrheal outbreak are dalits.



Ninety two out of 205 in Jajarkot, 22 out of 42 in Rukum and eight out of 13 in Dailekh, who succumbed to the disease were dalits, says a report publicized by the Informal Sector Service Center (Insec).
