DANG, Jan 29: It has been four days since Rampati Chaudhary´s 10-year-old son went missing. She has spent these days weeping and has not taken even a mouthful of food since her son went missing.

At least six persons have gone missing from the district in the past one month alone. Chaudhary´s son Hom Bahadur, a resident of Dhikpur-7, went missing from the Pashupati Boarding School at Narayanpur, where he was a first grader. Hom Bahadur, who went missing on Tuesday after receiving a call from someone who identified himself as the kid´s uncle, remains untraceable. [break]

“Someone called at the school and asked to send the kid home stating that his mother had taken ill,” said the school´s Principal Keshav Thapa. “The caller said he was the kid´s uncle. He even conversed in the Tharu language.”

Hom Bahadur was allowed to go home while he was attending class. But he never reached home. Neither had his mother fallen ill. Instead, she was cooking mutton at home as the kid had told her in morning that he wanted to eat mutton.

Rampati´s husband is working in Malaysia. As property, the family owns just four katthas of land in the village.

“If he was taken for money, we don´t have much,” Rampati said. “My little son has not harmed anyone,” she said, weeping. “Whoever took him, please send him back.” So far, no one has contacted the family.

Rampati and the school filed a complaint at Area Police Office in Narayanpur on Wednesday. But police have not found any lead so far. Govinda Thapa, who leads the Area Police Office in Lamahi said investigation is ongoing.

"Since no one has contacted the family so far, it is hard to say whether the baby got lost or was kidnapped,” Thapa said.

The umbrella organization of private schools, PABSON, has expressed concern over the security of school-going children, and has urged for Hom Bahadur´s safe release.

An increasing number of children and adults have gone missing from the district in recent times.

A few days ago, a married woman went missing from an area of the district bordering India. Similarly, two weeks ago, Ganga Pun, an 18-year-old, went missing from Gurungkhola customs point in Bela VDC. She went missing just a week after getting married.
