Shrestha's team wins Pro-Am title

DHARAN, Dec 29: Nepal No 1 pro Shiva Ram Shrestha´s team won the Pro-Am title of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort in Dharan on Saturday.



Shrestha was drawn with amateurs Gajendra Limbu, Mani Kumar Limbu and Raj Kumar Rai accumulating 157 points to win the trophy.[break]



Shrestha scored two-under 68 earning 38 points, while his teammates Mani Kumar scored 40, Raj Kumar scored 37 and Gajendra scored 42 points. Shrestha received Rs 5,000 while his amateur partners received trophies.



The team of pro Surya Prasad Sharma and amateurs DB Rai, Arjun Sunuwar and Purna Limbu earned a total of 151 points to finish second, while the team of pro Sabin Sapkota and amateurs Samyog Shahi, Ram Bahadur Tamang and Sumod Bastakoti accumulated 146 points to finish third. The second and third placed pros received Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The amateurs received trophies.



Gajendra Limbu (42) and Sushila Rai (34) produced the best cards to win the best individual trophies in men and women´s sections. Rabindra Man Shrestha won the longest drive award on Hole No 18, while Raju Rai bagged the closest to the pin award on Hole No 17.



Altogether, 59 golfers including 16 pros took part in the Pro-Am event played under stableford full handicap format. Chairman of Nirvana Country Club Shashi Ram Bhandari, President of Nepal Professional Golfers Association Rabindra Man Shrestha and General Secretary of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale handed over the prizes to the winners.



Meanwhile, NGA General Secretary Ghale handed over Rs 10,000 to Nirvana Chairman Bhandari for the junior tournament. The NGA has announced of providing Rs 10,000 per event to organize junior tournament in all the clubs of the country every month.



The main event -- seventh tournament under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13 -- concluded on Friday with RNGC pro Rabi Khadka winning the trophy.
