The CA has forwarded the report of the committee on Cultural and Social Solidarity with suggestions, while the rest were sent without settling the contentious issues. [break]
The other six reports are from CA committees on Fundamental Rights and Directive Principals, Determination of Legislative Bodies, System of Governance, Judiciary, Protection of National Interests and Constitutional Committee.
Women CA members had objected to some provisions in the report on Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles. Usha Kala Rai and Binda Pandey dissented that the provision on citizenship in the report is discriminatory against women.
Similarly, Janajati and Madhesi CA members objected to the provision of official language in the report of the CA committee on Cultural and Social Solidarity. Demanding “multilingual state policy”, CA members Hisila Yamai, Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Barsaman Pun, Jitendra Sonar, among others, objected to the provision that proposes Nepali as the official language. They also protested against Subas Nembang´s move to endorse the report without properly discussing it in the full CA meeting. Nembang later agreed to include the voices of dissent in the report.
The CA meeting was put off without fixing the date for the next meeting.
