Seven arrested for timber smuggling

ITAHARI, March 21: Seven persons were arrested on Saturday on the charge of timber smuggling from community forests in Sunsari and Morang districts.



Manoj Roy, Dhan Bahadur Tamang, Daulat Singh Karki, Kumar Tamang, Binod Ramtel, Mani Raj Shreshtha and Binod Magar are among those arrested. All of them are residents of Itahari.



A police team from Hansposa post arrested them while trying to smuggle 11 logs of freshly sawed saal (Shorea robusta) in a tractor (Ko 1 Ta 3286).



They have admitted during interrogation that they smuggled timbers in connivance with office bearers of Saraswoti Community Forest User Group, Itahari, Sunsari.
