Senior team beats U-19 boys

KATHMANDU, May 28: Nepal Senior team led by Gyanendra Malla defeated the team of Nepal U-19 cricketers in a match played during a closed camp training for the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup.



The senior team won the practice match played at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Monday by five wickets.[break]

U-19 team led by Prithu Baskota elected to bat and was all out for 151 runs in 35.1 overs. Skipper Baskota scored 38 runs off 48 balls while Krishna Karki added 24 runs off 37 balls. Hasim Ansari (13 runs) and Pradeep Airee (10 runs) were the only other batsmen to score in double digits. Senior team gave away 32 runs as extras.



Binod Das, Chandra Saud, Sanjam Regmi took two wickets each while Amrit Bhattarai, Sharad Vesawkar and Rom Shrestha claimed a wicket each for the senior team.



Chasing the 152-run target, the senior team crossed it in 39.3 overs losing five wickets. Sunam Gautam remained unbeaten at 42 runs off 58 balls while Gyanendra Malla scored not out 33 runs off 39 balls to seal the victory for senior team. Rahul BK claimed two wickets for the U-19 teams while Saurabh Khanal, Bhuwan Karki, Prithu Baskota took a wicket each.



Nepali U-19 team is participating in the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from June 23 to July 1.



CAN recently called all the 14 members of Nepali U-19 team that helped the country qualify for the ICC U-19 World Cup to the closed camp training and 10 other players selected on the basis of performances in the recently concluded Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament.
