SC stays Jha's appointment as new NTA chair

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Supreme Court (SC) on Monday stayed appointment of Digambar Jha as new chairman of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).



A division bench of Justices Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki issued an interim order on separate writ petitions filed against the appointment. [break]



NTA chairman contender Bishwa Nath Goyal and advocates Jagannath Misrha, Sushil Kaji Baniya and Hari Chandra Timalsena filed the petitions separately citing Jha’s professional ‘incompetency’ on his previous job, and failure to meet criteria, including prior working experience in the field, for the post.



Formerly, Jha was managing director of Nepal Oil Coroporation (NOC), The cabinet on December 4 had decided to appoint Jha as head of the NTA.
