SC orders inclusion of persons with disabilities in PR lists

A bench of Justices Hari Phuyal and Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the order, instructing the Election Commission to ensure that any party that has omitted the names of persons with disabilities corrects its list and resubmits it.

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: The Supreme Court (SC) has directed political parties to include persons with disabilities in their proportional representation (PR) candidate lists submitted to the Election Commission.



A bench of Justices Hari Phuyal and Tek Prasad Dhungana issued the order, instructing the Election Commission to ensure that any party that has omitted the names of persons with disabilities corrects its list and resubmits it.

The petition, filed by Madhav Prasad Chamlagain, argued that while the PR system provides representation for various regions and communities, it does not guarantee representation for persons with disabilities.
