Salman back with a bang

KATHMANDU, June 6: Age is nothing but just a number when we are talking about Bollywood’s forever lover boy Salman Khan.

No matter done for how many times, Salman Khan delivers his best whenever it’s about doing an annoyingly adorable lover boy’s character.

In Anees Bazmee’s Ready, Salman makes it loud that he still has his Hum Aapke Hai Kaun charm, yes, even in his ascending 40s.[break]

Director Anees Bazmee, mainly known for comedy films, makes his comeback with Ready. Bazmee’s last release Thank You was a disaster at the box office.

Sanjana (Asin) is a runaway bride while Prem (Salman) is a runaway scoundrel, little arrogant initially but a lovable soul to know in real. “Mr Attitude” and “Miss Conwoman” flirt around a little before they finally realize that they cannot do without each other. Well… the lover-boy clown and the love of his life never feel like going beyond the cheese. And when it’s time to say Jeez, Please, there is always a family to fall back on.

Their romance unfolds against the backdrop of the most hilarious joint family, all of them into their character and delivering their best to tickle your funny bone throughout.

While the movie is inspired by 2008 Telgu film Ready, Salman makes us remember is part in Hum Saath Saath Hai, a ready to mingle bachelor in an extended joint family.

Though director Bazmee needs a special mention for being able to bring the best out of characters en masse, Ready is totally dominated by Salman Khan. He makes you laugh your lungs out with his unique banter, comedy, buffoonery and cheesy dialogues, each of which he does it with élan.

The movie may seem like one with a star-cast value, but at the end, it is all a Salman Khan movie, just like his last film Dabaang was.

Sadly, Asin opposite Salman cannot grab much when it comes to walking side by side. She is no near to Madhuri Dixit when it comes to matching up with Salman.

When it’s about plots and screenplay, Azmee, however, is in his flummoxed state with the aunties often overdressed, uncles too loud and boisterous, under-intellectual villains accompanied by subplots that at times go all haywire. What compensates all such loopholes is Salman Khan’s confidence in the script and in his character.

Not to miss here definitely is Paresh Rawal, too, who when he speaks less, makes you laugh the more.

Though the narration is lengthy at places, director Bazmee does his best to proceed promisingly with his lead actor as his one-man army in the film.

The good-bad boy in the film, Salman is supported well by his co-stars Akhilendra Mishra, Sarad Saxena, television comedian Sudesh Lehri and actor Mahesh Manjrekar. While the male actors are at their finest, the female stars in the film however lack the adaptability. This implies to the lead actress Asin too.

In any case, you won’t be bothered much because of the fact that you will not have to use your mind much to understand the movie.

The savior in the film is the eminence of gags which is not that common in Bollywood’s comedy films. Indeed, the peppy soundtracks are going to woo the charts for some time.

For sure, Ready has a lot more to offer than Dabaang when it comes to keep your eyes glued to Salman Khan.

Ready is a movie that cannot be rated for screenplay, plot and subplots, cinematography, choreography or any other matrices used to evaluate films.

It’s a film to just enjoy purely till the time you are there in the theater. And as you walk out from the cinema hall, all that you are left with is the song

Dhinka Chika.

CAUTION – Ready is not a meaningful cinema that will ever be critically acclaimed. If you are ready to not look at anything beyond Salman Khan, you will have you paisa wasool.
