Import of four wheel vehicles through Birgunj Customs point was decreased by 41 per cent in the last fiscal year as compared to the previous fiscal year, according to the Birgunj Customs Office. [break]
Out of the total vehicles imported in the country, a total of 90 per cent are imported through this point.
President of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce, Ashok Temani, said that there is the highest negative impact on selling vehicles after banks started to control loan flow due to liquidity crunch.
It is expected that selling of vehicles was decreased by around 50 per cent after the control of loan flow by banks.
to the Nepal Automobile Dealers´ Association, selling of the vehicles worth more than five million rupees is decreased by upto 75 per cent while vehicles of less than two million rupees is decreased by upto 30 to 50 per cent.
Before two years, average selling of big vehicles was around 500 per month and sold number of medium sized and small vehicles was also the same but selling of the vehicles is now decreased by 50 per cent.
Revenue collection was decreased by Rs. 1.06 billion in the last fiscal year 2068- 69 BS as compared to the previous fiscal year due to decrease in import of vehicles.
In the fiscal year 2067-68 BS, a total of 3,438 vehicles were imported from the third countries while it was 739 in the last fiscal year, according to the Birgunj Customs office.
The Office said that light vehicles imported from India were decreased by 12 per cent.
The Office in the last fiscal year was not able to achieve the target of VAT after there was decrease in import of vehicles from India and the third countries, Information Officer at the Office, Gunraj Subedi said.
