Rana cremated as per Hindu tradition

KATHMANDU, March 5: Senior litterateur Diamond Shumsher Rana was cremated as per Hindu tradition at Pashupati Aryaghat Saturday.



The funeral pyre was lit by his son, Raghu Shumsher Rana.[break]



Rana´s relatives, the members of literati community, artists and well-wishers were present on the occasion.



Rana passed away at 6:45 pm on Friday at the age of 93 at Norvic Hospital, Thapathali. He was ailing from kidney failure, diabetes and high blood pressure.



Known for his popular novels like Seto Bagh, Basanti, Satprayas, Dhan ko Dhabba and Anita, Rana had made a significant contribution for bringing democratic changes to the country through his literary creations against the then autocratic Rana rule.



He is survived by his second son and a daughter. His wife Balika Rana and eldest son Khusbu Shumsher Rana have already died.
