Some in the crowd vandalized and torched the stage after Bhattarai, who cut short is speech and spoke only for about 12 minutes, left the venue.
Although Bhattarai was escorted to the venue from the airport under tight security of the police, demonstrators still pelted stones at the vehicle he was traveling in. Police had lobbed two rounds of teargas shells.
Bhattarai told the mass that he tried his best to accommodate the demands of Madhesis but the three-party leaders ignored his advice. As a result, he had gone to Janakpur to express his solidarity to the ongoing Madhes movement.
"This is the time for Madhesis to lead the country and I am here for facilitating that," he said, adding that he had visited Janakpur to bridge the gap between Kathmandu and Madhes.
The Question of Legacy

He also alleged that Pahadi rulers have been intentionally denying the rights of Madhesi people. "It may take some time but the past agreements with Madhesi parties should be implemented," he added.
It is learnt that Bhattarai's supporters Ram Kumar Sharma and Ramchandra Jha had earlier assured the Madhesi front that the constitution would be burnt inside the assembly. The protesters had also attacked Bhattarai's supporters Sharma and Jha over Bhattarai's failure to live up to his words.
