KATHMANDU, Feb. 22: UCPN (Maoist) leader Dev Gurung has said that the people protesting the seven-point agreement are against the peace process.

Speaking at a face-to-face organized here on Tuesday, he said the comments taking over the seven-point agreement are efforts to keep the country at a status quo and made it clear that the agreement was in fact done to give a way out to the country.[break]

It is a unilateral decision of the CPN-UML for its politburo to amend the seven-point agreement, he said and stressed that an agreement held between two parties should be discussed between the same two parties.

Leader Gurung also said that the argument of not giving Maoist the Ministries related to security until the Maoist combatants were integrated was not logical.

Also speaking at the program, Nepali Congress leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said the Congress would not join the government until the seven-point agreement was annulled.

Describing the agreement as a secret pact reached between the chairmen of the two parties, Dr Mahat claimed that the agreement was done only for communist polarization and with the intention of maintaining the combatants as a separate force.

He also claimed that the integration of the Maoist combatants was not possible without the presence of the Congress and Madhesh-based parties.
