KATHMANDU, March 6: All private schools across the country remained closed on Friday due to strike called by Nepal Institutional School Teachers´ Union (ISTU).
The umbrella organization of teachers teaching in private educational institutions shut down the schools demanding that the government nationalize all private schools to do away with commercialization and privatization in the education sector.
Among other things, the ISTU has demanded that the Company Act be scrapped for private schools and salary to teachers be guaranteed as per the government scale. The union has said that it is wrong on the part of the government to allow schools to run under the Company Act.
Talking to myrepublica.com, ISTU President Hom Bahadur Thapa said the agitating teachers will stage a rally from Shantibatika in Kathmandu at 11:30 am. The rally will walk past Old Bus Park, Sahid Gate, Sundhara, and New Road gate before converging into a mass meeting at Shantibatika to press their demands.
