KATHMANDU, Aug 17: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Friday rejected the two election-related ordinances earlier forwarded to him for approval by the government.

The head of state rejected the ordinances, which the cabinet had passed on July 27, citing the lack of relevance of the bills in the existing situation, a press statement issued by the president´s office said. [break]

The ordinances were meant to amend the Constitution Assembly Act and Election Act that would finally clear way for holding CA elections. The government has announced new CA elections for November 22.

Earlier, the Election Commission had informed the government that the conduction of elections on the proposed date would not be possible as the government failed to clear legal and constitutional hurdles and the political parties failed to forge consensus in time.
