At a special function organized at the Presidential Palace at Sheetal Niwas, President Dr Yadav gave away the Prithvi Pragya Award carrying a purse of Rs 400,000 to Modnath Prashreet. The award is being presented to noted personality making contribution to any of the fields of language, literature, culture and social science in every four years. [break]
Likewise, Nepal Pragya Language Award of Rs 100,000, which is being provided in every two years, was presented to Prof Dr Yogendra Prasad Yadav.
The Nepal Social Science, Culture and Philosophy Award carrying Rs 100,000 was conferred on Gyan Mani Nepal.
Similarly, Bhuwan Dhungana received the Nepal Pragya Nepali Literature Award of Rs 100,000 while Lok Bahadur Thapa Magar and Rebati Raman were honoured with Nepal Pragya Mother Language Literary Award with a purse of Rs 50,000 each.
Names of all the awards except the Prithvi Pragya Award have been changed over the time. These awards were not handed over for a long time following the 2006 April Uprising (People´s Movement-2).
On the occasion, President Dr Yadav lauded the pivotal role of the Nepal Academy for the proliferation of language, literature, art, social science and philosophy.
Literary figures have played crucial role to increase the level of social awareness, he said, adding that literary figures and literature are the precious treasure of the country.
´Literature is a mirror of the society. The felicitation will further encourage the creators to further contribute to the society,´ he noted.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha said that the literary figures should continue with their creations for the cultural transformation of society.
Chancellor of the Academy Bairagi Kainla said that broader areas were taken into consideration while selecting the literary figures for felicitation.
Felicitated personality Prashit said that it was wrong to remove the name of the institution extending contributions in the making of history and demolishing the statues of the nation builder.
