KATHMANDU, July 16: The meetings of the Nepal-India Joint Steering Committee (JSC) and the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Power Sector Cooperation concluded in Pokhara on Wednesday, with both sides agreeing to increase Nepal's power exports to India to 1,650 MW.
The 13th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee on Power Sector Cooperation was co-chaired by Nepal's Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Sarita Dawadi, and India's Power Secretary, Pankaj Agarwal.
Nepal signs historic agreement to export energy to Bangladesh
According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the two sides agreed under the Combined Power Transfer arrangement to increase electricity exports from Nepal to India to 1,650 MW from the existing 1,100 MW. Likewise, electricity imports from India to Nepal will be increased to 1,400 MW from 1,000 MW through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur and Dhalkebar-Sitamarhi cross-border transmission lines.
The meetings reviewed bilateral cooperation in the power sector, including the development of hydropower projects, cross-border electricity trade and transmission infrastructure.
Both sides also discussed ways to expedite and facilitate the implementation of ongoing and planned power generation and transmission projects.
