The District Police Office, Morang, is still trying to find out whether there was foul play. Maya, 25, was found stabbed the death while one and a half years old son Idol and three years old daughter Chahana were found strangled to death. Idol was reportedly suffering from pneunomonia.[break]
However, police informed that their preliminary investigation and accounts by locals indicate that Maya could have killed the children before killing herself. "We don´t see outside involvement in the killings. And there is no evidence of any physical struggle inside the house either," a police officer told Republica.
As per their investigation, police have sketched a probable story line of the murder scene after taking to locals and the deceased´s family members.
At around 8.15 in the morning, Maya had asked her husband Lanka to cook food and feed Idol. Heeding to Maya, Lanka had left to work in the field of their neighbor Suraj Rai before nine. At around ten, Maya´s brother-in-law Dilli had seen Maya lying on bed inside her room.
He had thought that she was asleep and didn´t bother to wake her up, according to police. At 11 am, Lanka arrived home from the fields and tried to wake up Maya, who was in bed. But upon removing the quilt, he found that she was dead with a stab wound in the stomach and the two children covered under the quilt were also dead, according to police.
Police were informed about the incident after locals were alerted from Lanka´s screaming. Bhakta Bahadur Rai, former chief of Tadi VDC was the first person to arrive at the scene.
